To help during the busier seasons Maplewood hires student interns to assist with different parts of the boutique within the student’s interest. The summer interns for 2021 are college students Maya Highsmith, Lauren Lieser, and Mckenzie Uhrig. Highsmith, a student at Kent State University (KSU), will oversee merchandising and pricing for Maplewood. Lieser, another KSU student oversees the social media accounts, photo styling and thrifting for the Pre-Owned rack. While University of Akron student, McKenzie Uhrig, manages the fashion blog, email campaigns, and updates the store’s website.

This is the third (and last) of the three-part series of Style Guides curated by Maplewood’s interns. This week it’s my (McKenzie) turn to style an outfit for the fall season using some of my favorite pieces from Maplewood. My absolute go-to during the cooler seasons is knit sweaters (or any kind of sweater really), I style them all differently and even get them in different sizes. Usually, I prefer an oversized sweater look so that’s what I styled for my fall outfit using a new arrival from Maplewood.

Hi! I’m McKenzie Uhrig, I’ve been the writer behind all the Maplewood blog posts this summer. Usually, I don’t speak to you directly but since this is my last post, I decided I wanted to speak to you myself about the amazing experiences I’ve had this summer at Maplewood with Kristin and Liz. Let me introduce myself first, I’m a fourth-year student at the University of Akron majoring in Fashion Merchandising in her last semester. Being the Arts & Entertainment Editor at the Buchtelite gave me experience in writing, which is one of the reasons I was chosen as an intern (to start a blog for Maplewood’s online site).
Creating and writing for this blog has been one of the most rewarding and run experiences I’ve ever had working. This opportunity has taught me so much about who I am as a writer and reinforced my love for all things fashion. I’ve learned invaluable skills that will help me in the future with my career path, I’d love to go into fashion magazines and eventually become a Fashion Editor (think Anna Wintour or Diana Vreeland).
With the summer season coming to an end and my graduation date approaching in December, it’s time for me to get back to classes to finish out my last semester. This will be my final post for my internship here at Maplewood, it’s been fun. I can’t thank Liz and Kristin enough for giving me this opportunity and thank you (the readers) for supporting the blog!
